Opinion Piece

I try very hard to keep my OPINIONS off my blog. However, lately, there is a big crisis taking place and I feel the need to pontificate.

Let us take religion out of the thought process as it seems to come up with this topic more often than not. Here you go organized religion, one giant PIN into you and off to the side you go.

Where is the human compassion? Day to day interaction human compassion? It sickens me to know end that the future generations of this country feel no mercy, guilt, or empathy for people around them. As a society it is our duty to defend those who cannot defend themselves. It will never be OK in my eyes to watch children hit, kick, punch, cause physical harm to another human being. Because they are gay, white, black, Latino, Asian, Hispanic, disabled does not make them an automatic target for a breeding ground of violence. Nor do I feel it is acceptable for adults.

You must be denied love on some level to believe that these actions are OK, acceptable, excusable and justifiable. These people are sons, daughters, wives, husbands, moms dads, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents. Who gave you the right to inflict such horrific pain on another human being? Who gave you the right to inflict pain on anything living? And with every fiber of your being you best hope that the tides don't change in your direction at some point in your life. What if this were your child, brother, sister, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, grandparent or friend?

People don't have to agree on all topics. I want to know, where is your respect, compassion, empathy or your morals? Because you disagree with someones lifestyle, race or religion does not make it OK for you to stir the nucleus of hate and allow that to be handed down from one generation to the next.

Take some stock today. Look around you and be grateful for the fact that you are loved, that you're a mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle grandparent or friend. Look into your heart and imagine how it would feel to have any of these people taken from you because someone hated them for being gay, lesbian, a woman, black, white, Latino, Hispanic, Asian or for their religion.

Regardless of your religious beliefs or your political views it comes down to human compassion people. And it is our duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Open your minds, open your hearts.
