Watching The Price Is Right was one of my guilty pleasures and a childhood fantasy of mine. Top 3 Things I loved about the show.
- Running down the isle
- Getting the price Exactly Right so you can reach in Bob Barkers pocket and win $100!
- Spinning the GIANT WHEEL beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeeep beep beeeep booop
No other game show speaks to my competitive shopping better than The Price Is Right. All cars end in 995, furniture ends in 999, electronics and other gadgets 95 and miscellaneous items end in a hard zero. I would have taken this game show by storm and would have also been a legend. A LEGEND PEOPLE!
I would have totally screamed like a mad woman, waving my arms running down the isle to my spot at the Contestant Stand. Total shakey hands, twitchy lips going oh my god, oh my god followed up by tears and nervous laughter.
The product that you have to guess the price on is a Blender, stainless steel with 20 different speeds. Contestant number one bids $99. Contestant number two bids 24.99. You bid the miraculous price of $79 the bell rings. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!! Someone has guessed the EXACT amount! The crowd goes wild! I'm still jumping up and down with giddy excitement in awe that I've made it to "Contestants Row" It must have been the T-shirt I made that said: My Pets Are Spayed and Neutered!!!
Bob Barker looks at his card and announces the contestant who guessed $79 come on up and lets play The Price is Right! I nearly faint. I fear I may slip and fall on the shiny white floor. I reach my hand into his suit jacket pocket and pull out a crisp $100 bill. I show it to the crowd. Delirious with anticipation of what I'm going to play for.
The crowd falls silent. Bob Barker says to me: Are you ready? Yes Yes I'm SO ready. The curtain opens:
I'm playing for A NEW CAR [a red VEGA no less] I scream with excitement. I've nearly peed myself. Then they wheel out 3 STRIKES!!
The rules of the game are: The contestant is shown eight discs: five marked with digits in the price of a car and three marked with an X – a Strike. The discs are placed into a bag and shuffled, and the contestant blindly draws a disc from the bag. If a digit is drawn, the contestant must choose which position it fits in the price. If correct, the digit is lit up in the price display on a gameboard, and the disc is removed from the bag; if incorrect, the disc returns to the bag. If a Strike is drawn, an X is lit on the gameboard and that strike chip is removed from the game. The contestant continues to draw discs until they either correctly position each digit in the price and win the car, or draw all three Strikes and lose the game.
I reach my hand in the bag, I pull out an X! What???? Bob slides the round disc into the slot. One lone x sits in red on the game. I reach my hand into the bag again. This time it is a 5! I don't need to turn to the crowd, I know exactly where this number goes. "Put the 5 on the end Bob" Bing! Up Pops the number 5 This continues until there are only two discs left. Will it be a number or will it be an X?? I'm sweating. [ I really want to win that Vega!] I reach into the bag trying to feel for a number or an X. Bob Barker tells me to hurry up! I grab onto a disc and out pops...A NUMBER!!! I fill in the blank and await the answer. Bob Barker request that the real price be displayed. I have just one a NEW CAAAARRRR! Dunnadaaaaaaaa, Dunnadaaaaaaa, dunnnnadaaaaaaadaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
spinning the big wheel!!
I reach as high as I can. I put every ounce of energy to get this to spin a full circle. Boopboopboopboopboopboopboopboop boop......boop...............boop.........................boop. I land on 90!! I decide to stay. Two more contestants spin after me. The first one goes over by a nickle. Haha! The second contestant really milks it but in the end only makes it to 55. I'm moving on to the SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN!!!
And I'm the BIGGEST WINNER so I get to choose the first prize or pass for the second one which we all know is going to be a trip to a million different places!! AND if I guess the exact amount of my trip I will the first prize too. I find out the my trip includes an all inclusive 7 days and 7 nights to the Puerto Rico where I will be staying in a Villa. I will then be whisked away to skydive down a waterfall where I will then have a full night at the Casino Royal, fed a fancy schmancy dinner with which I will be able to wear my entire new D&G clothing collection! I will then be whisked back home where I can drive my brand new RED VEGA!!!! I'm jittery with numbers flashing through my head cause I really want to win those kitchen knives and the full bedroom set!
I sum up mentally what I believe the cost will be. The crowd is yelling at me...screaming numbers out! 15 thousand!!!! 15 five!!!! I look for Geoff. Is he giving me the higher or lower sign?? What to do!! I tell Bob Barker my number. The audience is silent. It is then revealed that I have bid the exact price of my trip and I win BOTH PACKAGES!!!! Geoff comes running up to the stage. Oskar is right in front of him! It is a truely glorious moment for me! I apologize to the guy who lost. And as we all hug we wave good bye and I make general chit chat with team, Like Oh! I love your shoes and I can't believe I won. And it is so awesome.
That is how it would have been folks.
