I have a horrible habit with movies. When a movie strikes a chord in the heart strings with me I will watch that movie until either the tape gets jammed or the DVD burns clear through. I can't stop myself. EVER. I have found this debilitating habit reaching near cataclysmic proportions. Certain sounds, situations, conversations, moments, smells, foods, colors can instantly remind me of a movie I have seen where I will then reach down into the movie file of my brain to reference a line or quote. Its annoying actually because I'm always disappointed when someone has not seen the particular movie I am referencing. What I've offered on the table is pure comic genius and added a flash of brilliance and now I have relegated you as someone who I've wasted my superior comedic talent on.
I could recite the entire script from Steel Magnolias: With Geoff's good looks and my sense of style. Which it isn't Geoff in the movie but My Geoff has some seriously good looks working for him. "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize." My all time favorite: Mamma always said if you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me. If I see this movie on TV I have to ask myself. a) do you feel like crying today? b) can you deal with the commercials and c) if its at all edited for timing change the channel. I've deemed my personality that of Weeza, she means well but comes off gruff. Has terrible feet and loves to gossip and knows the dirt before anyone else. Lastly she is a Southern Lady with Yankee tendencies. Perfect.
I have also seen Maid of Honor more times than I would like to admit. Why? I love Patrick Dempsey ~ he's from Maine so that makes him super cool. But I just love this movie. I love how "the guys" all back him to make him the perfect Maid of Honor so he can get the girl. And I laugh every single time when he runs into the waiter not once but twice. As if I've never seen it before. I also love Busy Philipps who plays Melissa in this movie because she is "hysterical" and mean.....The ending is so classic Disney that I can't help but swoon over the fact that they have been best friends for years and "FINALLY" figure it out.
Brat Pack Movies / John Hughs Films - I've seen them all ~ a million times over. I originally read "The Outsiders" in 7th grade and the movie came out shortly after that. The book was amazing. The movie story line was OK but the actors?? Way more beautiful than the McSteamy ~ McDreamy of today [even though if I was still allowed to hang posters on my bedroom wall they would most certainly be there! Brat Pack Movies became my design theme from my early teens until I moved out of "the nest." Rob Lowe as SodaPop ~ I was convinced that I was going to marry him some day. He was soon replaced by Andrew McCartney as Blane if only that stuff really happened. Some kind of Wonderful ~ which for some odd reason I actually went out and purchased the soundtrack to this movie. I can always hear " Miss Amanda Jones" by March Violets and "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Lick The Tins. Oh John Hughs you made the best movies for our generation.
The Lake house ~ I usually watch this movie when I'm home sick in bed. This is one of those warm fuzzy movies that you can watch all bundled up in bed and feel comforted. Well, along with some chicken noodle soup. It never fails, I will watch this movie at least once a year - always when I'm sick and always on my computer under a ton of blankets. The ending never gets old for me either. I always always cry. What can I say I'm a total sucker for love stories.
The Princess Bride ~ I originally wanted to see this movie because Robin Wright used to be on my favorite Soap "Santa Barbara". I knew I had a twisted mind at that point because I was extremely amused by this movie and it is a Pike Household Classic. ROUS's Rodents of Unusual Size. And Billy Crystal is absolutely hysterical. "He said to blaaaaathe, and we all know to blathe means to bluff. Obviously your friend was playing cards and lost."
The list goes on and on really but I will close with other repeats in my collection: French Kiss w/ Meg Ryan and Kevin Klein, The YaYa Sisterhood, What Dreams May Come and believe it or not HOOK. If its raining where ever you are hopefully this will provide some nice cozy couch movie entertainment!

an ounce of pretentious is worth a pound of manure.
