Free Form Friday - Who's your Sistah?

Sisters - are amazing things. [ and even as write that a really bad song comes into my head ]. My sister is 11 years younger than me..well 11 years and 8 months almost 9 months. I knew my mother was pregnant before she even told us. I can still see her standing in the doorway with an envelope going Guess What!!!! and I said "you're pregnant". Then she dropped her arms and just looked at me with a "seriously???" face. I remember feeling very conflicted about this pregnancy. I mean come on. I was the youngest child the only girl who grew up with two brothers who were very much the frogs and snails and puppy dog tails kind of brothers. I remember thinking that my Dad wouldn't love me as much if it was a girl. Isn't that stupid that kids think that way sometimes? And then the battle began. My brothers wanted a baby brother. They wanted to name him Phillip and call him Flip which I thought was stupid. Beyond stupid. Phillip Duclos? Sorry not rolling off the toungue quite as elegantly as my name. Sarah Elizabeth Duclos. It sounds almost as if you should have HRH in front of it does it not? I know because me and my Mom came up with the name. However the HRH title is mine and HRH in waiting would have to make do with Princess. [side bar - this story is making me laugh ]

So for what seemed like eternity I went to bed at night and BEGGED God to please please please let it be a girl. I cannot count the times I fell asleep saying please to God. I could not go through my entire life with another brother. With this little ritual came 2 other rituals in our little abode. Number 1 - Everynight we got a giant icecream from Friendly's IT WAS AWESOME! Double Chocolate with Strawberries. Number 2 - I proceeded to ask my mother every single day if she had the baby. I was annoying but persistant in my quest to find out what it was!

Along with my obnoxiousness came my brothers brutality to which they would tell me every day that MOM HAD THE BABY! And I would reply SHE DID!!!!??? And then they would laugh. So on the day that I was having a sleep over at my friends house I called for a ride home. My brother Mike answered the phone. It went like this:
me - "Mike - I need a ride home can you tell Mom and Dad?"
mike - "No"
me - "Why NOT!"
mike - "Because Mom is having the baby"
me - "Yeah - Right! Just tell them I need a ride home."

Three hours later I called back -
me - "Mike! Why didn't you tell Mom or Dad that I need a ride home?"
mike - "I told you, Mom is having the baby." jerk face.

When they brought her home I was sooooooooo excited. I wanted to feed her, cuddle her. HER!! My little teenie tiny sister - sooooooooo cute. SOOOOOO awesome. I wanted to be the best sister a sister could have. I did everything for her. Spoiled booger.

My Mom immersed her in Dance because she didn't think the commitment level was as high as Gymnastics. Hahahahaha - For her first recital I nearly p'd my pants. Her arms were so short they didn't go above her head. I kept asking my mother if she was going to be a dwarf. I can still see her in her little blue leotard and tights. Then came the "Productions" dunnn dunnn dunnn. I once discovered her giving a dance recital to all the neighborhood "boys" It was called The Black Dalhia. She was covered in a giant black piece of material and blossomed open like a flower. I was mortified. And all the little neighborhood boys clapped. I leaned over to my mother and said. "She's a total dork...she's not going to have any friends." I've seen her in a multitude of dance performances. I've had to elbow my Dad in the ribs due to his snoring. I never really saw past the short arms to appreciate the Dancer that was on stage. I always - and forever will see her as my little geeky sister. Hence the name of her blog - GeekxNerd. Made my heart melt to little tiny pieces when I saw that.

Then one day she decided that she was going to start her own Dance Company called Neotaric Dance They were holding their first performance called Neo Pop! I was in awe! My sister was an amazing dancer, choreographer and entrapeneur. It made me cry - Watch this! This is when I knew my sister was talented beyond belief. Today she works for the largest Dance Company in MA. Begins with a B! Is the Home of the Red Sox and The REMdog. [Not sure if I'm allowed to post the name due to rules and regulations] BUT you can see her company right..................here.

I'm so proud of her.
