He did indeed call. That very next day he had to do some shopping and he took me out to eat. He called to see how I was doing, he showed up at my house to watch The Bruins, he brought me left overs from his Parents house, he was....always there.
We spent countless hours talking and sharing and becoming the best of friends. I remember boo-hooing one night about my mistakes and how I was enjoying being on my own. Geoff said to me, "You know one of these days Renee someone is going to come along and sweep you off your feet." I laughed at the mere thought of being swept and told him, "They better have a big broom."
A few months later we kissed and it was magical. It was the night before the Super Bowl, Washington Redskins vs. Buffalo Bills. I remember because I watched this entire game by myself in my lawn chair on my 13 inch TV debating on if I should call him. .

I remember feeling very conflicted. Geoff is my best friend. I didn't want that to go away. It would make me sad. But I wanted to kiss him again. That made me very happy. We didn't speak to each other for a week [ maybe it was only two days ] When he called me, we both decided that we needed to discuss what happened. I was so nervous. Loosing Geoff would have been the worst. I was broken and he knew all of my flaws, insecurities, everything. We decided on two options.
- Forget it ever happened
- Take a chance and see what happens
Geoff is a hunter of Pheasant and Duck primarily. One year he went on a hunting trip with his Dad and when he came home he said. Close your eyes I have a present for you. I love love love prezzies so I closed my eyes and held out my hands. He said, reach into the bag and I did. Now, for the record I was not expecting anything on the level of fancy schmancy awesomeness. However, I was certainly not expecting what was in that bag. I pulled out a giant MOOSE JAW! All nasty dirty with the molars that came out. Geoff was so pleased with his find. I was pleasantly disgusted and stuck that stupid thing on the window sill. And there it sat for many many years.
Four years later we got engaged. He said, I have something for you. And he pulled out that same white bag. I was very adamant that I was NOT going to put my hand in that bag. He assured me that it was not a MOOSE JAW this time. Again, I was not exactly sure what was in there but it took a lot of coaxing on his part to make me put my hand in that bag. Eventually I caved and I felt a square box all velvety and smooth. And we were officially engaged. I felt so lucky. [more to come later]

an ounce of pretentious is worth a pound of manure.
